Popular is my middle name

My husband, John, finds it hard to believe that I am a popular girl. When I had my surgery recently several friends brought desserts, food, cards along with prayers and love. John said 'WOW, I didn't know people liked you so much!' Then I didn't share my treats.
He went so far as to exclaim wildly to his parents- 'I didn't know she had friends'. At least his parents could believe I was popular and have friends outside of John.
I just want to thank all my friends for their sweet love and gifts of food and prayer. Also, I do sit at the cool girl lunch table these days... so there John.
And I found this funny website- and their definition of popular...

Surgery

Yesterday I had surgery. Much like this pumpkin of mine.
I now know his pain and feel bad for cutting him up.
We have to go rest now.

Pumpkin Patch 2008...

The Pumpkin Patch on Sauvie's Island
Sunday October 19, 2008 It was about -40 degrees (just kidding). It was super cold. We didn't have gloves. We had lots of runny noses and some tears. But, we persevered and I picked the two biggest pumpkins I could find. Pinkie loved walking in the field. Those pumpkin vines tripped her alot, and she was most interested in the decomposing pumpkins. Toddlers are so weird.
Many kids whispered "mommy, look at that man with the Dora backpack..." But our John wore it for us. We needed sustenance- juice, cheerios, diapers, wipes (for the noses) and extra blankets. He wears it with pride. Plus, he can sing the intro song from the show!
She likes to hold hands with mommy.
Cold Cold COLD! We went to the animal barn- saw some chickens, goats, llama, baby cows (so cute), sheep and pigs. Then we got a family picture taken which actually turned out really good! Maybe a Christmas card? We got on the hay wagon to the pumpkin patch. It lurched and bumped (I thought we all might die). Then pumpkin picking- I am very choosy. And finally a hot dog to warm us up... or really just to keep Pinkie happy for another 5 minutes :) We start the bribery early in this family.
Classy, right?

going backwards...

When I picked Pinkie up from the angel babysitter, Robin, she was not in such a good mood. Or really it was just like an awful, whiny, runny nose mood. Hi Mom, I missed you??? When does she learn to say that? Dinner had to be made, dishwasher emptied. But you can't do that with one arm... so I stripped her and put her in the kitchen sink. Gave her some spoons, empty yogurt cups, coffee measurer... Dinner was made, dishwasher emptied, husband happy! To Abbie and Airee, I am sorry for biting and hitting you, Airee. I lack the words to explain my feelings. Please be my friend again next time. I will learn to share by then. Love, Pinkie

de-stress, de-funk, de-offspring...

Weekend made possible by Jack and Darlene Sheridan the in-laws. McMenamins Edgefield Troutdale Oregon brewery, winery, golf course, hotel, weddings, restuarants, spa and everything else We started with 6 balls. We ended with 1. We had to quit after the 9th hole (of 12) because we only had 1 golf ball left. Plus, John was beating me by like 8 strokes... My pride was really hurt. I did take two years of golf lessons during college.
Ashamed, I admit that we were so happy without a child in tow to just relax, joke, tell stupid stories, kiss a little in public and sleep in until 8:40am!!! Actually, I woke up at 6:40am which is when the alarm usually goes off. Then I had to force myself back to sleep. How amazing is sleeping in?
Golfing pro-
Our room... no TV! That was a hard one for me. I heart TV :)
Thanks for such an amazing night away. With the impending stress of surgery I think I was losing it a little bit. I did have to 'hold it' for awhile because I didn't want to use the community bathrooms at 2am. I made John get up and go with me.

boon! boon! boon!

We went to Chevy's on Friday with the grandparents (we usually eat with them every Friday). Pinkie hadn't taken a nap and we were really worried about the high probability of a throwing food, screaming, snotty melt down. But, I didn't want to cook and Chevy's sounded so darn good.
Miraculously, there was not a melt down!
A balloon solved it all. Or as Pinkie would say "boon, boon, boon!" We ended up going through 3 balloons because Pinkie kept letting go of them.
So, boons and ketchup are all we need now.
She loved her boon so much, she bathed with it, tried to take it to bed (that was a melt down) and searched for it the next morning. A red boon...

A trip to the beach...

We went to Seaside last weekend. It was the most beautiful day at the Oregon beach I've ever seen. We learned in North Carolina that Pinkie likes to eat sand and she again acted like she was at a chicken nugget buffet. We played at the toy store. Don't you just love it when toy stores actually have toys out for kids to play with??? I would love to own one of these big train tables- one little track piece is $1.25! To expensive for our budget.
And Daddy and Pinkie rode the carousel. I don't think she 'got' the whole gist of it. One day we know she will love decorated horses that twirl and go up n down.
We walked the boardwalk a couple times looking at all the people and dogs. We thought about renting one of those beach bicycle things, but you can't put a car seat in them. How weird would that have looked? We ate pizza and homemade ice cream, too.
I love the beach!
